ABOUT

”Matcha Project has been in the works for two years with the goal of promoting and modernizing Sadou Matcha-Tea-Ceremony and tea culture; we are "Gion Tsujiri (President: MIYOSHI MASAAKI) ", a longestablished specialty store in Kyoto that represents the Japanese tea industry, "Mattea (President: SATO MASAKAZU)", a Japanese tea creator group that has worked on salon GION KITAGAWA HANBEE that provides the finest matcha, and “Benefitea (President: NISHIZAWA HIROYASU)”, one of the leading bottling companies in Japan.”

We believe that Japanese tea will enrich your daily life and mind with these reimagined values. "Give matcha a try, first thing when you wake up in the morning."

But

"Maybe let’s leave that mug in the cupboard"

It is widely known that the “vessel” or bowl that carries your food or drink could indeed affect the taste. Not only does it affect the taste but so will it influence all your senses.

We are introducing the coolest tea wares that reflect the spirit of Japanese tea, carefully selected for your enjoyment of Japanese tea to the fullest.

OUR PRODUCTS

MODERN MATCHA
BOWL KIT

We’ve designed a "Modern Matcha Bowl KIT" with the shape and material that reimagines the notion of traditional tea ceremony; to show what’s possible for the future of Japanese tea while preserving the tradition of The-Way-Of-Tea. A special limited edition “MATTEA VESSEL CASE 001” that was created as our first product ahead of full-scale production. "Double-Layer Insulated Matcha Bowl" that overcomes the stereotypes of traditional tea ceremony customs. The inner layer of the bowl is coated with enamel to achieve functionality such as clean tasting tea and heat conduction. The rim features a glaze with delicate luster.

As our first edition, we chose marble (white / black) for the outer layer, which has not been used traditionally for tea ware but is a material familiar to the global consumers. Our craftsmen source and handpick the raw materials carefully, then process and polish the stones to create its sophisticated design. The use of Marble originates in Europe where the stone culture and its designs were and still are an integral part of the modern lifestyle. A natural stone like marble has a unique pattern on its surface created by nature, which makes your Marble Matcha Bowl truly one of a kind. It has excellent durability and preservability and is hard to incur damage. And thanks to its heft, your Matcha Bowl is a constant reminder to be mindful and to treat it with care. To support the heaviness of the bowl requires using both hands, which will naturally have you facing the tea in the proper Sadou manner which will also give you a moment to recenter. We hope that your Matcha Bowl will be appreciated and be passed down for generations much like a heirloom jewelry. This Matcha Bowl is inspired by contemporary art by "MATTEA, a tea-producing group which strives to explore new realms of Japanese tea that will live on for the next 100 years.” To show our gratitude to campaign backers, this “Special Limited Edition” Matcha Bowl is produced in limited quantities, marked with “original 001” numbering by hand and is reserved only as our campaign perk. The matcha selection that’s part of the perk is carefully curated by the renowned Kyoto Tsujiri (mentioned in the introduction), with an everyday-tea concept in mind. Moving forward, we plan on partnering with local businesses that produce Nishijin-ori and Washi Japanese paper which are old traditional Japanese materials that have not been used in teaware, customarily. The inner enamel and bottom marble layers are well integrated but are also designed to be taken apart easily for washing. Our goal is to expand the lineup in the future so we may accommodate specific preferences and you may have the ability to customize and design the teaware set to your liking. Enjoy the luxury and personal experience of making matcha yourself, all while at home.

BOTTLED TEA SET

Our specialty tea glass and bottled tea [premium tea bottled and packaged like wine] We are packaging Japanese tea sencha and hojicha but no matcha for our Bottled Tea, specialty tea glass included. Our latest Bottled Tea has been in development for the past two years and is a collaborative effort between Mattea and Benefitea of Shizuoka (mentioned in the introduction). This set includes both bottles of our original additive-free Bottling Tea which is produced with the highest of standards in Japan, and one specialty Marble tea glass exclusive to backers. We use domestic high-grade tea leaves luxuriously, and two types of tea are currently available: green tea and hojicha (Rose flavor). Our Japanese tea professionals worked on these new flavors that have a different twist from the traditional Japanese tea, enjoy!

Bottled Tea is a great alternative to enjoying fine delicious tea for those who find it cumbersome to brew theirs in a Kyusu tea pot. Unlike manufacturing plastic bottled tea which boils the tea, the Bottled Tea manufacturing method of steeping the tea in water takes 20 to 30 times longer for full extraction. It takes more than a day’s time to produce a single bottle of Bottled Tea and we pride ourselves in taking the time through each process, much like we do in taking the time to craft a set of our teaware. "Cold Extraction Method" is the latest all natural steeping process.

  • Only two ingredients: tea leaves and water. Completely additive-free tea that is good for your health.
  • Extraction that retains the flavor profile and nutrients.
  • Long shelf life: our Bottling Tea lasts 3 times longer, about 3 to 6 months, compared to a commercially available additive-free product.

MATCHA

This is not some random Matcha but the one carefully selected with the concept “Drink it everyday” by Kyoto Gion Tsujiri, the most famous in the world of Sadou. Matcha is know as a superfood and effective for anti-aging and skin smoothing . In addition, it keeps your cholesterol under control if you drink it everyday. As the concept is “Drink it everyday,” this matcha is great both with or without milk.

BENEFITS OF MATCHA

These are the scientifically recognized benefits of Japanese tea consumption:

This is why 800 years later, Japanese tea is still loved and highly valued for its health benefits by many people all over the world.

OUR STORY

Amidst the confusion of Covid, we thought long and hard how we can contribute to society. And the answer is, let’s do what we do best boosting people's physical and mental wellbeing by sharing our tea. We continue to make adjustments and improvements based on early feedback and will be launching various lines of products in the next several months.

Together with our supporters, we aim to reinvent the notion of tea drinking with our new products. The rewards we are offering for this campaign are things we won’t be able to revisit because while this is the greatest starting point, we have nothing but greater developments ahead of us.

Products for this campaign are limited in quantity and are marked with “original 001” numbering by hand to show our gratitude to backers.

You will be one of the few owners of MATTEA PRODUCT with original numbering “001”.

We sincerely hope to modernize the 800-year-old Japanese matcha culture and Sadou Tea Ceremony customs to suit the needs of today.

If this mission speaks to you and you would like to be a part of this project, welcome! Our 100 year commitment has begun.
